You may not install and run Virtual Cover Creator on multiple computers unless you have purchased individual license for each computer.

How many Covers can I create with your software?

There’s no limit as to the number of cover you can create with Virtual Cover Creator.

2D Design Questions

Can I create a 2D ebook cover for Amazon’s Kindle, Barnes & Noble’s Nook, iBookstore, and iPad Formats?

Yes you can!

  • If you only get one size for ebook cover formatting for Amazon’s Kindle, Barnes & Noble’s Nook, iBook store we recommend going for
    1. 600×800 pixels
    2. JPEG format
  • To create a 2D ebook cover, select the "Electronic Magazine" model in Virtual Cover Creator. You may use your own cover art or design it from scratch in Virtual Cover Creator.
  • In 3D Preview, leave the default 3D settings as the image will be displayed in a flat 2D by default.
  • Virtual Cover Creator will save your cover image in 3312×3356 pixels by default including the while space around the image.
  • Crop the image to remove the extra white background around the image
  • Save your image in JPEG format

 

To resize your image to 600×800 pixel, use Windows PAINT or any other graphic design program for that matter. You can find Windows PAINT in your computer by going to Windows Start menu and search for PAINT.

Can I create cover images with a transparent background?

Yes you can.

On the 3D View, click on the “Background Color” button and change the opacity to zero then save the image in PNG format.

You can have a transparent background even with the shadow and reflection effect applied.

Can I use my own images or pictures for my cover graphics?

Yes you can. To load an image from your harddisk, select the Image tool (Tools tab > Image), then drag your mouse diagonally from the top left to bottom right to create a rectangle layer while holding the left mouse button. When you release the button, a file dialog will appear where you can choose an image from your hard drive.

Press the ESC key to deselect the current image layer. To select an existing image layer, press V to return to the Select tool and click on the layer you want to select. You can move an image layer using your mouse while it is selected.

Do I need to have Photoshop or another graphic design software to use Virtual Cover Creator?

While there is no need for any third-party graphic design software to create your own cover, you may want to use software such Paint.NET in order to resize you final cover image.

How can I add, resize, re-position and delete an image layer?

How can I resize the final cover image?

You can resize your cover image using Windows PAINT or other graphic editing software of your choice. To find PAINT in your computer, go to Windows Start Menu then search for PAINT.

How do I add my own background image or existing cover art?

The step to add your own background image or existing cover art is similar to adding any image layer. The only difference is you might have to resize your image layer so that it’s stretched to cover the whole canvas. Watch the following video.

How do I crop to remove the extra space around the cover image?

On the 3D Preview window, you can drag the handles on the edge of the viewport to crop the image. To save the final cover image, just click on the “Save image” button.

You have 13 cover types to choose from they are: Two-sided Box, Three-sided Box, Book Cover, Electronic Magazine, CD Cover, CD\DVD Disc, Membership Card, DVD Case, DVD Disc and Case, Special Report, Thin Box, Wide Box and Books Bundles (Books In a Box).

3D Design Questions

Can I create 3D Covers with Reflections?

Yes you can create 3D covers with photo realistic reflection effects.

Can I create cover images with a transparent background?

Can I create bundles, packages or home study courses?

Yes, you can combine any cover type in any way you like. However you will need Virtual Cover Professional in order to create bundles and packages.

Templates & Background Images

Are templates from Virtual Cover Creator version 2.xx compatible with version 3.xx

No, the templates from Virtual Cover Creator version 2.xx is NOT compatible with version 3.xx of the software.

Do I have to select all free 25 or 50 templates at once?

If you are adding many templates to your shopping cart and do not have time to do it all in one sitting, use the “Save & Retrieve” feature to save the current shopping cart or retrieve a previously saved cart. You can always return to the Templates page at a later time and continue your selection or retrieve previously saved cart.

Do you offer extra icons, images and web 2.0 graphics to in my cover design?

While you can create your own graphic using the built-in image editor in Virtual Cover Creator, we highly recommend FindIcons.com for some pre-built ones that you can use in your design. Just check the licensing option and ensure that the image is a freeware or allow for commercial uses.

Do you offer free templates?

Yes we do! You’ll get 25 free templates when you purchase Virtual Cover Creator Standard Edition or 50 free templates for the Professional Edition. The instruction on how to claim your free templates is included in your order email.

How do I download the templates?

You’ll need to purchase the template by adding it to your shopping cart. After your payment is approved (we use PayPal as the payment processor), you will be directed to our ‘Thank you’ page which contains the download links to the templates you have purchased.

This information will also be sent to the email address that you provide during check out.

How to use the templates?

The template files are in PNG format. You can load them into Virtual Cover Creator like a normal image files. From there you can add font, other image or shape layers and customized them further to your liking.

I have chosen 25 or 50 templates, but when I enter the coupon code, I get an error message saying I have not met the minimum

Check that when you’ve selected 25 templates, the total price is $99.75 or $199.5 if you select 50 templates before entering you coupon code.

What’s included in a template?

Each template is saved in a ZIP file. The ZIP file contains the front (350×400 pixels), spine (100×400 pixels) and top (400×100 pixels) side in PNG format. Additionally, we have also included the corresponding PSD files in case you would like to edit them further in Photoshop.

While Photoshop isn’t necessary in order to use Virtual Cover Creator, for this purpose, we’ve included the files for extra flexibility.

System Compatibility

Can I use the generated covers for print publications?

While images created using Virtual Cover Creator is optimized for web usage, the final cover images are in 600 DPI by default which is acceptable for print publications. If you use low resolution images or graphics for your cover design, this will affect the final print quality.

Can I use Virtual Cover Creator on a MAC?

Unfortunately, Virtual Cover Creator only support Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008 and Windows 7 at the moment.

What do I need in order to use the Virtual Cover Creator?

You don’t need anything else beside Virtual Cover Creator in order to create your cover images. However, you may want to use software such as Windows PAINT which comes with your Operating System (or any other graphic editing software for that matter) to resize your final cover images in order to reduce their sizes so that you can upload them to your server.

Trial, Order, Refund & Upgrades

Do you offer a CD backup that is sent to my address?

Yes we do. When you place an order, there’s an option in the order form where you can opt for a CD to be sent to your address. It costs an extra USD10.95 including shipping anywhere in the world.

How can I remove the Professional Editon trial license key?

If you have entered the trial license key of the Professional Edition into the software, you can remove it by going to Help > About and then click on the “Clear license” button. Once removed you can enter a new license key.

How to remove the trial watermark?

You need to purchase the license key and register it with the software. To register your software, go to “Help” and click on “Key” to open the registration dialog then copy and paste your license key supplied in your order email. You’ll need to restart Virtual Cover Creator to complete the registration. To do so just exit the program and launch it again.

I own a license for the previous version of Virtual Cover Creator, do you offer free upgrades or discounts?

All minor version upgrades are free i.e. from version 2.0 to version 2.1. However, changing version from 2.x to 3.x is major upgrade and would require the purchase of a new license key. In such case, please contact us to get an upgrade discount as you do not have to pay the full price.

I’ve purchased the license key, where do I enter this information in the software?

To register your software, go to “Help” and click on “Key” to open the registration dialog. You’ll need to restart Virtual Cover Creator to complete the registration. To do so just exit the program and launch it again.

What are the limitation of the trial versions?

The only limitation of the trial versions is that there’s a trial watermark embedded in the cover image. There’s no time limit and no reduced functionality.
